About the Urdu language

Urdu is an Indo-Aryan language and the national language of Pakistan, also widely spoken in India. In everyday speech it is largely mutually intelligible with Hindi; the two differ mainly in script and in their higher vocabulary, with Urdu drawing more on Persian and Arabic. Urdu is written right to left in the Nastaliq style of the Perso-Arabic script, a flowing hand in which each word slopes down towards the line.
